The Zap Pow Shoe

During its rise in the 1950’s, Pop Art often used bold and contrasting primary colour combinations to create visually distinctive pieces of art. This perfectly mirrors the striking, stand-out designs at Terry de Havilland and inspired the creation of the Zap Pow Mule.

The Zap Pow was a towering stiletto design hand painted in vibrant yellow leather paint with pop art, cartoon detailing. The high contrast and bold colour combination challenged the traditional norms of fashion just as Pop Art did with the art scene.

Only a handful of hand painted Zap pow heels were made making it a very limited edition piece. A pair was made especially for Amy Winehouse’s 2007 International tour and she wore them to perform at the iconic Californian festival, Coachella. Another pair has been featured at the Blenheim Palace: Icons of British Fashion exhibition in March 2024.

The stand out design later went on to feature in the Terry de Havilland collection, on the Margaux Wedge (pictured below).

Amy Winehouse 2007 Tour

Amy Winehouse, the iconic British singer-songwriter known for her distinctive voice and retro-inspired style, often donned Terry de Havilland shoes. Famously in 2007, she wore the limited edition Zap Pow hand painted heels at Coachella (see below).

With her soulful voice and rebellious spirit, Winehouse captured the hearts of music lovers worldwide and became a cultural icon during her tragically short career.

Known for our rock ‘n’ roll glamour and vintage flair, Terry de Havilland’s designs embodied the same sense of individuality and rebellion that defined Winehouse’s persona.

Despite Winehouse’s untimely passing in 2011, her influence on fashion and music continues to resonate. A biopic about the immensely talented Amy Winehouse is due to be released in 2024 starring Marisa Abela and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
